In a significant milestone ahead of the much-anticipated West Africa Youth Day (WAYD) Accra 2026, the Ghana Catholic National Youth Council (GHANCYC) has officially unveiled the theme for the regional celebration: “Take Courage: Catholic Youth as Actors and Agents of Peace and Hope in West Africa.”
The announcement follows a consultative meeting held with the First Deputy Secretary General of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa (RECOWA), Very Rev. Fr. Vincent De Paul Boro, and the Central Planning Committee (CPC) for WAYD Accra 2026.
According to the CPC, the theme emerged through prayerful discernment and dialogue between the RECOWA Secretariat and the Ghana-based Central Planning Committee, symbolizing the unity of purpose among West African Catholic youth and the Church’s commitment to empowering them as beacons of peace and hope in the region.
The message is clear — young Catholics are being called to take courage, to rise above fear, apathy, and division, and to become true witnesses of Christ in their communities. As the Church faces a rapidly changing world, the youth are reminded of their mission to build bridges of peace, promote unity, and embody the hope of the Gospel.
Organized under the auspices of RECOWA/CERAO and RECCYWA, the West Africa Youth Day will serve as a platform for spiritual renewal, regional solidarity, and cultural exchange, uniting Catholic youth from English, French, and Portuguese-speaking nations across West Africa.
As preparations intensify, the Central Planning Committee encourages all dioceses, chaplaincies, and Catholic youth movements to begin spiritual and logistical mobilization towards this landmark celebration of faith and mission.
