Ghana Explores Partnerships with Denmark in Digitalization and Innovation
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP) recently engaged in discussions with representatives from the Danish Embassy to explore potential partnerships in the areas of digitalization and innovation.
The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral ties and leverage Denmark’s expertise in driving digital growth and sustainable development. The discussions reflected the growing importance of Techplomacy—the integration of technology into foreign policy and international collaboration.
The Minister’s engagement with the team focused on Key Areas of Collaboration
• Digitalization of Government Services:
Ghana expressed keen interest in learning from Denmark’s experiences in implementing GovTech solutions, particularly platforms like eBoks, which centralizes government documents, tax reports, medical records, and other citizen services into a secure, digital ecosystem.
• Sustainable Development:
Denmark’s expertise in renewable energy and green technologies could support Ghana’s Green Transition.
Technology and Innovation: Ghana aims to develop its own tech industries, and Denmark's innovative approach to technology and entrepreneurship could be beneficial
• Digitalisation of Meteorological Services:
As part of enhancing Ghana’s climate resilience and early warning systems, discussions also explored the digitalisation of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet). Ghana seeks to strengthen its meteorological capabilities through a partnership with the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI). Leveraging Denmark’s experience in digital weather forecasting and climate data services could help improve Ghana’s disaster preparedness, agricultural planning, and environmental monitoring.
The Danish team was led by the Danish Ambassador, Tom Norring. He was accompanied by Priscilla Owusuaa Opoku and Kim Sarup.
